CMALT Accelerator Workshop

This 1-day standalone workshop is designed to help CMALT candidates fast-track work on their portfolio in order to submit it to peer review. The workshop will provide tailored support for individuals as well as peer support in a group of CMALT candidates all working towards CMALT accreditation.

The workshop will be delivered by Maren Deepwell.

Pre-workshop activities

When you register for the workshop, you will be asked to complete a short profile including what accreditation pathway you are on (CMALT, Senior or Associate), which sections of the portfolio you would like specific help with and how far you have progressed overall.

In the week before the workshop, you will receive pre-workshop activities to complete to start progressing your portfolio.

Workshop Day

The workshop day has both live sessions and asynchronous activities scheduled from10:00am to 4.00pm and concludes with networking opportunities with other candidates. The first half of the day will be focused on strategies for writing specific portfolio sections, including practical examples from accredited portfolios. The afternoon session will provide time for individual support and a peer review exercise.

Post-workshop support

Following on from the workshop day, you will receive the workshop materials to support you as you complete your portfolio.

Who should attend?

Anyone registered for CMALT who is keen to complete their portfolio more quickly, candidates who are working towards CMALT looking for more support and anyone looking to revise a referred portfolio. If you are not already on a CMALT pathway you can find out more information <a href="https://www.alt.ac.uk/certified-membership/cmalt-registration">here</a>, including details on how to register for the accreditation process.

We are putting our values into practice and Members at the heart of the conference, so in this spirit the event will be chaired collaboratively by the <a href="https://www.alt.ac.uk/about-alt/how-we-are-governed/central-executive-co... of ALT</a>.

The conference themes are:

<li>Digital transformation beyond the crisis: what is your vision for learning, teaching and assessment? This theme is focused on how we are transforming education and training through digital practices in a post-pandemic world.</li>
<li>Co-creation with learners: this theme explores how to use digital technology in partnership with learners to design sustainable approaches that work for everyone. How can we co-create student engagement and enjoyment and make the learning experience more open, inclusive and equitable? </li>
<li>Emerging leadership for a new strategic vision: we are seeing a growth in more strategic responsibilities in roles with a focus on digital education and training. This theme is dedicated to the work and vision of both emerging and established leaders in both institutional and community roles seeking to share their expertise and learn from like-minded colleagues in a dedicated leadership strand of this year’s event. </li>
<li>Developing Digital Fluency: there has been a big shift in the digital skills and capabilities that we need to develop and recognise in both students and staff: from digital citizenship to critical data literacy and ethical considerations, what does it mean to develop digital fluency? </li>
<li>AmplifyFE: this conference strand is dedicated to proposals from the FE and Vocational Education sector, and we encourage submissions that share expertise around digital tools and technologies, skills development and collaboration (not competition). </li>
<li>Creativity wildcard: if your work doesn’t fit into the traditional research or practice themes, then this theme enables you to submit research, practice or policy proposals from any sector including Further Education, schools, vocational learning and training, lifelong learning and work-based learning.</li>

We'd like to invite you to join us for a meeting of the ALT Wales Network, which we are happy to host in Cardiff on the 16th June from 14:00 to 16:00 at Cardiff University, 2.26, ABACWS, Senghennydd Rd, Cardiff CF24 4AX.

This will be the network’s first opportunity to meet in person since the pandemic and a chance for us to have an informal catch up and share our experiences from the past couple of years.

All are welcome from the network, but we do appreciate the time that it can take to travel across Wales, so although we are not planning to record the session, we will endeavour to write up and share any outcomes that may emerge from our meeting.

Loosely, the afternoon will consist of an introduction from Maren Deepwell (Chief Exec ALT). We would then welcome contributions from members who might like to share updates from their institutions. An informal social gathering will follow the meeting.

#AmplifyFEspace Webinar Introducing SkillSpace: The Web-based Employability Skills Builder

Preparing learners for industry placement is a high priority for the FE sector, particularly with the expansion of T level delivery. But how can we ensure learners develop the essential workplace skills and behaviours they need to make the most of the placement opportunities?

During the presentation we will share how Middlesbrough College, working in partnership with Discover eLearning and local employers, designed the '<a href="https://skill-space.uk/">SkillSpace</a>' web app to enable learners to showcase their skills directly to employers.

By completing a series of phased surveys, and self-generated Improvement Plans, learners effectively highlight how their skills develop over time, and can demonstrate that they are 'employment ready!'

Designed as part of a College Collaboration Fund (CCF) project, the presentation will practically explore how the college developed the 'SkillSpace' web app and how you can get involved right now by joining our invited beta pilot phase

Dr Joyce I-Hui Chen, a Learning and Quality Practitioner at the College of West Anglia, is  a co-founder of FE Teacher Educators @FETeacherEd with Naomi Knott from Sandwell College. FETeacherEd is an online connection space and network for further education teacher educators.
